Golden Mean

The Golden Mean is also known as the Golden Ratio, the Golden Number, Φ (Capital Phi, prounced like the "fi" in "five"), and φ (Lowercase Phi).

Phi

The number Φ is approximately 1.618. φ is 0.618. Phi is a number like Pi (π) in that the decimal values continue on forever.

Golden Ratio

The golden ratio is one to Φ or φ to 1. That is, 1:1.618, or 0.618:1.

The length of the end knuckle in your finger to the next knuckle, the second knuckle to the first, the first knuckle to the length of your hand, your entire hand from fingertip to wrist compared to your forearm.

Since at least the Renaissance, Phi has been used in compositions, where the width is one or little phi, and the height is Phi or one.
