You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat. -Albert Einstein

Juxtapose

(redirected from Glossary.Juxtaposition)

Juxtapose is a fancy way of saying "placing two things next to each other." The purpose is so that they can be compared, or create an effect. Placing a baby and an old woman next to each other is an example of creating meaning through juxtaposition.

While odd, this word is very real and important. Juxtaposing two objects will let you compare and contrast them, and notice things that you would never have seen if they were left separated.
