Scrap

Scrap is the term used for photos or reference that are used to create part of an image. While many artists have reservations against using scrap, it undeniably increases the quality of the work.

Note that copying from photos is frowned upon, and will make your work appear flat. But using a photo as a lighting or pose reference can make all the difference in the world.
