Seven Types Of Folds

The teachers at my school seem to think it's more important to understand the anatomy that goes under the clothes, so you know what the clothes are wrapping around, before you actually get into wrinkles and such. But you can take things in whatever direction you'd like.

My figure drawing class went over clothes and cloth only briefly. We were told to get the book "Drawing People, How to Portray the Clothed Figure?" by Barbara Bradley?. Interestingly enough, the first half of the book focuses on drawing the figure itself, and only the last half deals with clothes.

This information is taken from Barbara Bradley's book. I recommend it.

There are two reasons things folding:

  • Stretching
  • Compressing

And there are seven types of this folding:

  • Pipe
  • Zigzag
  • Spiral
  • Half-lock
  • Diaper
  • Drop
  • Inert

I need example pictures of each of these, as well as a text explanation and things to look out for/avoid.
