Trying to get used to sketching on a tablet without having to upload from a scanner first. It's a bit different and still in progress, but I think I'm figuring it out... |

| Wow! Those are nice! I really like the bottom kid. That's awesome! How long did it take you to learn how to draw like that? Did you teach yourself and did you use any books as references? |

Thanks for the compliment! Those are always nice. =D
While I've used books to learn basic anatomy most of my style just comes from a lot of practice and refinement. I think I've been drawing since I was 6... But that was when I was all concentrated on super realistic superheroes. About 4 years ago I decided I wanted to just draw what I like and not worry about realism or competing with others and this style is what developed. heh.
It's always in flux. |

I think his goatee is a little close to his mouth. It looks like spittle.
But everything else looks great. :) I'd like to take note of the hair, especially. That's something I still seem to have problems with. Do you have any suggestions that might help me? Your hair looks just fine, but for some reason, the hair I drawn ever seems to turn out quite right. |

Yeah, the goatee wasn't in the original concept and thus it's location suffered when I added it in during an after-thought. Oh well, you don't get everything right all the time. heh
Anyways, basically what I do with hair (which by no means actually means I'm correct in doing so) is conceptualize the entire body of the hair in the rough stage. Then I'll begin defining the face and move back into the hair defining the shape I want it to have, how I want gravity to deal with it, (if at all) and the general flow of the hair lines.
The major tricks to hair are to concieve of it as a mass rather than individual lines without forgetting that hair is a light and bouncy substance that can sometimes have a mind of it's own. It's not a heavy weighted mass that's always the same, but at the same time you can't break it down too far into individual strands or it just becomes messy and unintelligable.
Once the scanner is back up I'll upload a picture in various stages to show you what I mean and how I (sorta) pull it off. |

| Much appreciated. Hopefully I'll have time to check it out even after I've been through all my classes and they've all given me various homework assignments. |
