Nothing much to say about this one, other than I like it. |

If I recall, this is the one you tried to do a more realistic face on, and plotted out a grid before you did it? It worked, because the face is a lot less cartoony. It still looks like a Gimpy sort of drawing, just with different features.
I'd like to point out a number of things you did right. This picture has a lot of good stuff going for it.
First of all, you've got one focal point. Her eye is right on one of those rule of thirds sweet spots, making it the focal point of the whole picture. Her other eye is obscured by the hair, and smaller from forced/accelerated perspective, making the focal eye stand out even more.
Her pose is interesting (and interesting is good). It's got some built up energy in it, with her head looking one way and her torso the other. Makes you think something's about to happen. You've got highlights on the eyes and hair, intentional or not, and they help give the picture extra life.
One thing you may not have done intentionally is draw the eye to her cleavage. It's a lot of white space, with this big black mark in the middle. Because of the contrast, it pulls the eye there. If the mark was lighter, it wouldn't pull the eye so much, but it's as dark as the darkest mark on the page. Whether or not that's the way it looked in real life, art is all about lying. Wanna draw the eye? More contrast. Don't? Less contrast.
And the one thing that I think would help this picture is filling out her skull more. I don't claim to be a master of anatomy, but as far as I can tell the back of her skull doesn't go back far enough. If there was more mass there, I could die happy.
It's a great picture! I like it! Do we get to learn the lovely lady's name? This is someone you know, isn't it? |
