It's a flag, that moves, the animation will come as soon as I can upload it, I'm unable to right now, though. It'll be in a comment.
Reason why it's Italian is basically two reasons, the actual reason is because it was the first flag I could remember the colours for, that just uses a Ramp, the second, and not the real reason, is because I'm originally Italian. (50% or so.) Anyway, the flagpole is just a cylinder with a sphere on it, the real focus is the cloth, that was made with the new Maya nCloth package in Maya 8.5, it's pretty cool, actually. |

Hi! Nice flag. It's simple, sweet, and effective.
How am I going to critique on this? Simple! I'm going to talk about composition. You said something very, very important in your description:
"...the real focus is the cloth..."
Did you know that you can actually "say" things like that in your picture instead of including them seperately? Here's a couple ideas:
Close-up. If the focus is the cloth, you can crop everything else out.
Rule of Thirds. If you draw a tic-tac-toe board over the image, the four places where the lines meet are the "focus points." Those are where the eye naturally goes to. By placing the cloth on one of these points, the eye will be naturally drawn to it.
Contrast. The eye is naturally drawn to areas of contrast. If you made the background (and the pole) very poorly lit, and made the cloth have all the light on it, then the eye would naturally be drawn to it. You can also contrast with colors and size and anything else. You did use quite a bit of contrast in this picture, so good job.
So there you go. A couple ideas. You can use all or none of them -- they're just tools to try to get a point across.
If you wanted to update more often without having to make a new model every day, try playing with compositions, too. Try to force the focus to different areas by using different tricks. And if you have any questions about how to get a point across, feel free to ask. Right now the best place is probably the shoutbox on the main page. |
