I'd like to welcome Lady Rose and Zingara to Gimpystick!
The new Gimpystick engine is nearing completion, and will be done as soon as I find enough time to finish working on it. Initially, the only change you'll notice is the way the addresses look and how you upload pictures. Next will be the comments system. After that will be PMs, or "private" comments as they be. The last thing I want to get done before I start school in September is Gimpystick Showcase.
And now I have a question for Gimpystick members. Should I rename Gimpystick now that it's not Gimpyboy/Stickman centric? If so, what name would you like to see?

Edit: I've added FLM 115. I didn't have it before because the Monday class was full and the Tuesday class was in the way of another class that I'd have to move two classes and sign up for a different full class to take. So I called them and they moved the Tuesday Film class to accomodate me. I feel special.
DigiPen Fall 2006 semester starts September 5th, registration is due on the 20th of June (this month). So I'm all registered, and this is what I got:

And the classes:
ANI 101: Introduction to Animation - Theories and Techniques
This course introduces students to the principles of animation through classical animation techniques. Students will explore the art of creating convincing movement through good timing, spacing, and drawing. Works of master animators will be screened and analyzed frame-by-frame to illustrate the principles covered in class, and students will put their knowledge to work through a series of exercises. The ultimate goal of both this course and its sequel is to introduce methods by which animators "act" and bring characters to life through sequential images.
ART 101: The Language of Drawing
This course explores the nature of drawing as a language skill and the use of drawing by production artists and animators. Applied drawing goals and critical thinking skills will be given special consideration. Students will be introduced to basic professional habits in drawing practice, drill, and play. Design principles, basic research, and the design process will be introduced and applied to a series of practical problems. This course also explorse basic drawing materials, drawing strategy, drawing sequence, linear drawing methodology, practice, and theory.
ART 115: Art and Technology
This course provides an overview of art history from Paleolithic times until the modern day. It traces the technological advances of society and art and considers the interplay between art and technology. Classical art materials and methods will be examined and students will explore how art has historically impacted society. This course has a worldwide scope and is not limited to just European and Western traditions.
BIO 100: Visual Perception
This course explores the nature of human visual perception. Beginning with the physics of light and anatomy of the human eye, the course examines how human beings process light information and use this data to survive. Additionally, students will examine neuro-physiology, perceptual physchology, and artistic traditions. The course will give special consideration to the modern technologies and professional uses of this knowledge.
ENG 116: Storytelling
Students will explore the nature of storytelling. Beginning with the psychosocial drive to tell stories, this course will expose students to the historical traditions of storytelling in all forms. The course covers the classical elements of story structure, traditional story goals, and critical thinking strategies for matchnig story form to a specific goal. Through a series of oral and written exercises, students will hone their storytelling skills. The course will emphasize telling stories with time restrictions and the modern commercial applications of both linear and non-linear storytelling.
FLM 115: History of Film and Animation
Description: This course examines the more than 100-year history of film and animation. Beginning with the scientific and technical advances that made these media technologies possible, students will explore every major movement and genre as well as their impact on society. The course will give special consideration to examining all of the various professional outlets for this technology.

Those that know me know that I'm not very good with special dates or events. Heck, you only have to read my comics to realize that I forgot about things like Christmas. I take things as they come, and here's a perfect example.
Trivium Entertainment is coming up on 300 episodes. I recently got a filing cabinet so I can turn all these stacks of papers into less clutter folders filled with papers. One of the piles of papers I picked up and sorted out was pages and pages of Trivium. Most every single page has two episodes on it -- saves paper that way. But the stack is still impressive to see.
Since I found it impressive, and people like to be impressed, perhaps it will impress you, too.

Woo! I made it into DigiPen! I'm gonna be an ARTIST type guy!

The good news is I've never wanted anything more in my life than I've wanted to get into DigiPen and I got it! The bad news is that I can't afford it and I'm going to go into some serious debt, and I'm going to be doing school work for about 80 hours a week so there won't be much time for anything else.
I got into DigiPen! *Does the happy dance*

Everyone please welcome Kicker to the Gimpystick practice gallery!
I took the time to make a few updates on Gimpystick tonight. Thumbnails are slightly smaller (200x250px max, largest side only) and the main page lists images three per line instead of two. Everything else is internal code chages to make things easier on me.
A friend and I did some brainstorming, though, and I really like the ideas we came up with. It would be appreciated if Gimpystick members shared their ideas on this subject (in the forum if the miniforum is too small) so I can know if the ideas are liked or not, but the general idea of what we came up with is thus:
Gimpystick Showcase
The current idea is that Gimpystick will have two parts: a practice gallery, which is the main purpose, and "Gimpystick Showcase," which is where non-practice, finished pieces can be uploaded by the artist.
Stats Page
The stats page will contain things like how "daily" they've managed to update, how many practices and showcases have been uploaded by the user, what contests they've beaten, and etc.
Scavenger Hunts
Each user will receive a checklist of things to practice over a given time period. Participation is entirely optional. If they do a practice drawing of everything on the list, they will receive an award on the stats page.
Theme Months
Certain months will be set aside for drawing certain things. Participation in theme months is entirely optional. The plan is to allow the users to vote on the theme of the next month. Weeks of the month may be divided into sub categories (ie, if the theme is "wilderness backdrops", one week might be "forests" and another might be "mountains"), and there may be special days where a certain specific topic is listed. Full participation in a theme month is recorded as an award on the stats page.
The idea behind Gimpystick is not to pit users against each other, but for everyone to practice and (hopefully) have fun. As such, none of the contests will be user versus user, but will instead simply be awards for competing the required practices.
These features may take some time for me to get implimented, and other features I plan to work on first include comments and private messages. I would really appreciate feedback from Gimpystick members as to how they feel about these ideas so I know I'm going to impliment something they'd like.

I don't normally cruise ytmnd.com, but my brother had a few things he wanted to show me, and I found it really interesting how something can be found, spoofed, improved, spoofed, and just made to be really funny.
A little history. In the movie Finding Forester (good movie), Sean Connery spoke the words "You're the man now, dog!" Someone took a picture and put it to the sound bite, and a new internet fad was born that eventually developed into the ytmnd.com site that everyone knows today.
Having said that, I present you with the following links that had me hurting with laughter. Please note that these contain sounds and pictures. And occasionaly to get them to sync right you need refresh the page after loading it.
